How a DITY / PPM Move Works
A Personally Procured Move (PPM), often called a DITY move, is a program for U.S. military service members undergoing a Permanent Change of Station (PCS). Instead of having the government manage the move, the service member manages it themselves. In return, the government pays them an incentive equal to 95% of what it would have cost to hire a commercial mover (the Government Constructed Cost or GCC).
If the service member's actual moving expenses are less than the 95% incentive payment, they get to keep the difference. This creates an opportunity to profit from the move. However, it's important to note that this profit is considered taxable income.
