How the Layout is Calculated
This calculator uses common interior design rules for general ambient lighting:
- Spacing Between Lights: A common rule of thumb is to divide the ceiling height by two. For an 8-foot ceiling, the lights would be spaced 4 feet apart.
- Spacing from Walls: The distance from the wall to the first row of lights is typically half the spacing between lights. For 4-foot spacing, this would be 2 feet from the wall.
- Total Lights: The calculator determines how many rows and columns of lights fit into the room with this spacing and calculates the total.
