What is the difference between compacted and uncompacted thickness?
Asphalt is delivered loose and hot, then compacted with a heavy roller. This process reduces its thickness by about 20-25%. You should enter the desired **final, compacted thickness** into the calculator. For example, to achieve a 3-inch compacted depth, a contractor will likely lay about 4 inches of loose asphalt.
