Understanding METs and Calorie Calculation

This calculator uses a value called **MET** (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) to estimate calories burned. A MET is a ratio of your working metabolic rate relative to your resting metabolic rate. One MET is defined as the energy you use when you're resting or sitting still. An activity with a MET value of 4 means you are exerting four times the energy than you would if you were sitting still.

Calorie Burn Formula

The formula used is:

Total Calories Burned = Duration (in minutes) × (MET × 3.5 × your weight in kg) / 200

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is this calculation 100% accurate?

This is a scientifically-based estimation. The actual number of calories you burn can vary based on many factors, including your age, sex, body composition, and fitness level. This calculator provides a very good approximation for the average person.

Where do the MET values come from?

The MET values used in this calculator are sourced from the Compendium of Physical Activities, a standardized system developed by researchers to classify activities by their energy intensity. It is a widely accepted standard in scientific research.
